General information about Costa Brava

The Costa Brava (in English: Rugged Coast) is situated in the Spanish autonomous Community of Catalonia. It is one of the most famous Spanish coasts and stretches from the north of Barcelona over the province of Girona. The 220 km coastline is the most northern part of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast and borders with the French borderline.

The coast is very multifaceted with sandy beaches, steep cliffs and romantic small coves. It is a goal of countless tourists, as well from Spain as from all over the world like Argentineans that have Buenos Aires apartments and come to Costa Brava for vacations. In the 1950s they started to develop the Costa Brava as touristic region with the construction of large numbers of hotels and apartments in seaside resorts that today are the most known towns for tourists like Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Estarit. Tourism is also the most important economical sector at the Costa Brava, enabling a lot of people to make a living there. The Coast between Rosas and Tossa de Mar has also a lot of delightful small coastal towns such as Pals, Begur, Tamariu, Aigua Blava and Calella that are not that overcrowded with tourists.

The climate at the Costa Brava is influenced by the Mediterranean Sea and is therefore very mild and pleasant. The average temperatures in the summer months range from 21°C to 28°C. Winter temperatures range from 6°C to 10°C. The water temperature in February is 12°C but during the summer months the water normally reaches a temperature of 24°C. The best time to visit the Costa Brava is between April and October, depending on your preferences. In Summer there are higher temperatures and it is more pleasant to swim in the war water of the Mediterranean Sea but during the Summer months there are also crowds of tourists.
